What is Smart Menu?

Smart Menu is a digital menu platform that allows restaurants to create and manage their menus online. Customers can scan a QR code at the table and view your menu instantly on their phone, contactless, fast, and easy.

How does the QR code menu work?

Each menu you create on Smart Menu generates a unique QR code. You can print or display this QR code on your tables, and customers simply scan it with their smartphones to view your live menu.

Can I update my menu anytime?

Yes! You can log in to your dashboard and update items, prices, images, and categories anytime. Updates are reflected instantly across all your QR codes.

Is there a free trial?

Yes! We offer a 30-day free trial of our Business Plan so you can explore all premium features before deciding to upgrade or subscribe.

Can I accept orders through Smart Menu?

Yes, with our Pro and Business plans, you can enable ordering directly from the digital menu. Customers can select items, and you'll receive orders in real time.

What’s the difference between Free, Pro, and Business plans?

Our Free Plan is great for small restaurants to try the system with limited features. Pro includes more customization, ordering, and branding options. Business offers unlimited menus, full support, and advanced features like table-specific QR codes. View full comparison table.

Is Smart Menu branding visible on my menu?

Smart Menu branding is visible on the Free Plan. You can remove it on Pro and Business plans to showcase your own brand.

Can I use Smart Menu for multiple restaurant branches?

Yes! The Business Plan supports up to 15 restaurants under one account, each with its own menu and QR codes.

Do you offer customer support?

Absolutely. All plans include AI Chat Support. Human support (email, chat, and phone) is available for Pro and Business plans.

What devices are supported?

Smart Menu is fully mobile-responsive. Customers can scan and view your menu using any smartphone or tablet. You can manage your menu from any device with internet access.

Do I need to install any app?

No installation is required. Smart Menu is a fully web-based system for both restaurants and customers. However, there are plans for a mobile app for restaurant owners to have a mobile app for better notification of new orders.

Can I use my own domain name for the menu?

Currently, all menus are hosted under our Smart Menu domain. However, with our Pro and Business plans, your menus will display without Smart Menu branding, giving them a clean and professional look. Custom domains may be available in the future as an add-on.

Can I translate my menu into different languages?

Yes! We offer a multi-language add-on so you can create menus in English, Swahili, French, and more, perfect for serving diverse customers. Please contact us and we will assist you in setting up your language menu.

How can I change the category of a menu item?

To change the category of a menu item, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.

  2. Click on Menus.

  3. Locate the category containing your menu item and click the hamburger icon to expand it.

  4. Find the item you want to update and click the Edit Menu icon.

  5. In the edit window, scroll to the bottom and click “+ Edit Category” (located next to the Save button).

  6. Select the new category for your item.

  7. Click Save to apply the changes.

How can I add menu variants and extras?

To add variants and extras to a menu item, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.

  2. Click on Menus.

  3. Locate the category that contains your menu item and click the hamburger icon to expand it.

  4. On the menu item you want to edit, click the middle icon (Variants & Extras).

Adding Variants

  1. Under the Variant Options section, click the “+” icon to add a new variant option.

  2. Enter the title of your variant (e.g., Size, Type, Comes With).

  3. Add the available options separated by commas (e.g., Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large) and click Save.

  4. Next, go to the Variants section and click the “+” icon to add a variant for each option you created.

  5. Select the variant type, enter the price, and repeat this for all options.

Adding Extras

  1. Scroll to the Extras section and click the “+” icon.

  2. Enter the Extra title and price (use 0 if there is no additional cost).

Once done, your customers will be able to select variants and extras when placing an order.

How can I change menu item details such as name, price, or allergies?

To update the details of a menu item, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.

  2. Click on Menus.

  3. Locate the category that contains your menu item and click the hamburger icon to expand it.

  4. On the menu item you want to edit, click the left icon (Edit Item) from the three available icons.

  5. Update any of the following details as needed:

    • Item Name
    • Description
    • Price
    • Veg (with green-marker) or Non-Veg Indicator (with red-marker)
    • Allergies
    • Item Image
    • Availability
    • Category
  6. Click Save to apply your changes.

How can I add categories and menu items?

To create new categories and add menu items, follow these steps:

  1. Go to My Restaurant in your dashboard.

  2. Click on Menus.

  3. Click Add Category and enter the name of your category.

    • Tip: You can also add subcategories by clicking the Add Subcategory icon under an existing main category.

  4. To add a new menu item, click the + icon within the desired category.

  5. Fill in all the required details for the menu item.

    • Note: The Title and Price fields are mandatory.

  6. Click Save at the bottom to store your changes.

How to Create and Configure a Restaurant

Follow these steps to set up your restaurant in Smart Menu:

  1. Log in to your Smart Menu account.

  2. Click on Add Restaurant.

  3. Enter the Restaurant Name and choose your desired brand color using the color picker next to the name field.

  4. Set a Slug – This will serve as your unique restaurant handle, e.g., www.menu.co.tz/{the-slug}
    ⚠️ Important: Choose your slug carefully, as it will be used to generate your QR code. Avoid changing it unless absolutely necessary because it will update your QR code as well.

  5. Enter a short description of your restaurant in the Subtitle field (e.g., your slogan). This is visible on Classic and Modern themes only.

  6. Enter the Restaurant Timing (e.g., opening and closing hours).

  7. Provide the restaurant phone number.

  8. Add a detailed description – This helps improve your restaurant’s visibility on Google and appears on the Classic theme.

  9. Enter your restaurant address.

  10. Upload a square logo and a horizontal cover photo.

  11. Select your preferred menu template:

    • Classic Theme
    • Flipbook Theme
    • Modern Theme
  12. Click Save to store your new restaurant settings.

How to Create a QR Code for Your Smart Menu

Once you have created your restaurant, a QR code will be automatically generated based on the slug you selected.

Follow these steps to access and customize your QR code:

  1. Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.

  2. Click the QR Code icon next to the MENUS button.

  3. Here you can customize the appearance of your QR code:

    • Change colors
    • Add branding elements such as your logo or custom text
  4. When satisfied, download the QR code image and use it on your tables, posters, menus, or anywhere you want customers to scan and access your digital menu.

  5. For convenience, you can also download PSD templates that showcase different ways to display your QR code professionally. These templates can help you get started with branding.

How to Modify Restaurant Options and Add Payment Details

Once your restaurant has been created, you can easily update its settings and configure payment options.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to My Restaurants in the dashboard.
  2. Click the Edit icon (next to the Delete icon) for the restaurant you want to modify.
  3. You will now see all the options entered during restaurant creation. Make any necessary changes.

Additional Settings:

Scroll to the bottom of the page to find Restaurant Settings and click the section to expand. Here, you can:

  • Change menu languages
  • Set the default menu language
  • Choose the menu currency
  • Enable or disable functions such as:
    • Call Waiter feature
    • On-table ordering
    • Takeaway orders
    • Delivery orders
  • Configure online/offline payment options

Payment Gateways:

You can also connect payment methods like:

  • PayPal
  • Stripe
  • Razorpay, and others.

Finally, click Save to apply your changes.
