To change the category of a menu item, follow these steps:
Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.
Click on Menus.
Locate the category containing your menu item and click the hamburger icon to expand it.
Find the item you want to update and click the Edit Menu icon.
In the edit window, scroll to the bottom and click “+ Edit Category” (located next to the Save button).
Select the new category for your item.
Click Save to apply the changes.
To add variants and extras to a menu item, follow these steps:
Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.
Click on Menus.
Locate the category that contains your menu item and click the hamburger icon to expand it.
On the menu item you want to edit, click the middle icon (Variants & Extras).
Under the Variant Options section, click the “+” icon to add a new variant option.
Enter the title of your variant (e.g., Size, Type, Comes With).
Add the available options separated by commas (e.g., Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large) and click Save.
Next, go to the Variants section and click the “+” icon to add a variant for each option you created.
Select the variant type, enter the price, and repeat this for all options.
Scroll to the Extras section and click the “+” icon.
Enter the Extra title and price (use 0 if there is no additional cost).
Once done, your customers will be able to select variants and extras when placing an order.
To update the details of a menu item, follow these steps:
Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.
Click on Menus.
Locate the category that contains your menu item and click the hamburger icon to expand it.
On the menu item you want to edit, click the left icon (Edit Item) from the three available icons.
Update any of the following details as needed:
Click Save to apply your changes.
To create new categories and add menu items, follow these steps:
Go to My Restaurant in your dashboard.
Click on Menus.
Click Add Category and enter the name of your category.
Tip: You can also add subcategories by clicking the Add Subcategory icon under an existing main category.
To add a new menu item, click the + icon within the desired category.
Fill in all the required details for the menu item.
Note: The Title and Price fields are mandatory.
Click Save at the bottom to store your changes.
Follow these steps to set up your restaurant in Smart Menu:
Log in to your Smart Menu account.
Click on Add Restaurant.
Enter the Restaurant Name and choose your desired brand color using the color picker next to the name field.
Set a Slug – This will serve as your unique restaurant handle, e.g., www.menu.co.tz/{the-slug}
⚠️ Important: Choose your slug carefully, as it will be used to generate your QR code. Avoid changing it unless absolutely necessary because it will update your QR code as well.
Enter a short description of your restaurant in the Subtitle field (e.g., your slogan). This is visible on Classic and Modern themes only.
Enter the Restaurant Timing (e.g., opening and closing hours).
Provide the restaurant phone number.
Add a detailed description – This helps improve your restaurant’s visibility on Google and appears on the Classic theme.
Enter your restaurant address.
Upload a square logo and a horizontal cover photo.
Select your preferred menu template:
Click Save to store your new restaurant settings.
Once you have created your restaurant, a QR code will be automatically generated based on the slug you selected.
Follow these steps to access and customize your QR code:
Navigate to My Restaurant in your dashboard.
Click the QR Code icon next to the MENUS button.
Here you can customize the appearance of your QR code:
When satisfied, download the QR code image and use it on your tables, posters, menus, or anywhere you want customers to scan and access your digital menu.
For convenience, you can also download PSD templates that showcase different ways to display your QR code professionally. These templates can help you get started with branding.
Once your restaurant has been created, you can easily update its settings and configure payment options.
